Let me start by explaining what aren’t reasons I’m running for mayor of Neenah. My campaign is not for my personal ambitions, the ego stroke, the overpaid job, the prestige or the name recognition.
Reasons I’m running
First, I am running to provide the people of Neenah a choice. Some voters do not have the opportunity to vote for a candidate whose beliefs and values closely resemble theirs. Sometimes, voters are only given one candidate, like in Neenah's previous mayoral race, in 2006.
Second, I am running because Neenah, unlike the federal government, cannot print its own money or borrow away its future from China. Cities can raise taxes, which encourages people to move out of the city limits, thereby reducing the city's tax base, and cities can cut spending, which generally amounts to less provision of services for the public. I am developing several plans that will reduce costs and add to the quality of life in Neenah, which will not require cutting services or jobs.
My background and education
I am currently a senior undergraduate at UW-Madison, majoring in political science. I have served on the student senate, the Student Association, at UW-Fox Valley. My political science studies include studies of urban government.
I earned an Associate of Arts and Science degree from UW-Fox Valley in 2008. I earned political science and philosophy departmental awards in 2008 at UW-Fox Valley, a 3.96 g.p.a. after five semesters and 73 credits there, and a 4.0 at UW-Oshkosh after one semester and 16 credits there. This fall, I began my senior year at UW-Madison, from where I will earn a B.A. degree in political science after the spring 2010 semester, shortly after the mayoral election. I earned a 4.0 g.p.a. and 16 credits at UW-Madison this fall. In the future, I plan to earn a Juris Doctor degree or graduate degree.
